Major update at Eds Doom2 Site
Mood:  happy
I forgot all about this Doom blog. I was looking for some new wads to play and came across it so I decided to make a post. The main update was I added download links for all the wads I had listed on my Doom site. And Iv'e been searching for more wads to play and list if they are any good. This year was off to a good start with some very good Doom 2 wads released. If you have never been there check out: http://edsdoomsite.tripod.com . Till next time, EddyM4814

Banned at the Doomworld and Newdoom Forums
Mood:  irritated
In one week I managed to get banned by the doomworld and newdoom forums. I was a member of the doomworld forums for over a year with no problems. Then when I made a post about updating Eds Doom2 Site my post was sent to the doomworld forum hell and I was banned. The only message I got was from Bloodshedder saying "its warez".  So I the went over to the newdoom forum and sent a PM message to Doom Dude asking if it was acceptable to make a post about my site. I got no reply, only the next time I logged in I got a message saying something like " reason for ban, none, length of ban, lifetime or forever". At doomworld it was bad enough but at newdoom I never even made a single post. Oh well.

Doom source ports
There are a lot of source ports for Doom out there. I've come across at least 12. The ones I remeber are, Legacy, Edge, Vavoom, Zdoom, Risen 3D, Zdoomgl, Gzdoom, Eternity, Boom, Skull Tag and Jdoom. Two of them are my favorites, Legacy and Zdoom, with Eternity a distant third. I always use a source port even if a wad says no source port required because of the better graphics. Legacy is my first choice because it has a great launcher that only needs to be set up once, can load as many wad and deh files as you want, and has 3D and open Gl rendering built in. Many wads that say they require a specific port can still be run using Legacy. If a wad requires Zdoom I use Zdoom. If it requires Boom, Prboom, or Eternity, I usually try Eternity first. Zdoom has a launcher similar to Legacys on their web site but I have had problems with it crashing my computer. If it did work correctly I would probably make it my first choice. Right now I make a shortcut of the Zdoom exe on my desktop then add the wad and deh files to the command line. Zdoom also works with Heretic and Hexen wads as does the Jheretic, and Jhexen ports.  Risen 3D is the most advanced port with great graphics but not many wads have been made for it so far. Also you need a fairly fast computer to run it.

My first entry.
4/4/07 I've had my web site www.edsdoomsite.tripod.com up over six months now and I think it came out pretty good for my first time. I got my first copy of Doom95 back in 2001 I think and it sat on my computer for about six months before I figured out how to play it. Duh! I had be playing Wolfenstein 3D/Spear of Destiny mods for about a year before that but when I got Doom95 working I was hooked. I played it over and over until I got 100%/100%/100% on each difficulty level (except nightmare). Then I started searching for more good FPS games and found the usual shareware versions of Quake, Hexen, Heretic, Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, Blake Stone, Blood, etc. I finally got a copy of Doom 2 and I thought it was great. In the mean time I kept coming across Doom 2 Wads But I could not figure out how to load them. They kept talking about using DOS but I have Windows ME. I got a copy of Zdoom but was still lost. Finally I got a copy of Legacy which is so easy to use and I was off. Before I knew it I had over 300 Mulit-level Doom 2 Wads on my computer and I decided to rate them from: does not run/bugs, poor, fair, good, to very good. Thats when I decided to make my own web site as a tribute to the good and very good multi-level Doom 2 Wads I had found. Well thats it for now. Eddy4814
